Residential Care

If you are no longer able to live at home or would like to transition to a more supported environment, you may decide to move into a residential aged care facility.

To access government funded residential care you need approval from an Aged Care Assessment team. There are also some private and non-government funded facilities that you can access without an aged care assessment.

You can access a residential care facility on a permanent basis or for a limited period of time as respite if people that care for you are not available or you are recovering from a health event.

Residential care facilities charge a range of fees to cover the cost of accommodation and daily living expenses and your income and financial assets will affect what you need to pay.

It is important to understand these fees and charges as, depending on your circumstances, you can decide if you would like to pay a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), Daily Accommodation Deposit (DAP) or a combination of both. The way you manage your assets and decisions you make about how to pay for your care can impact on your pension entitlement and tax liability? It is important to get the advice and assistance you need to make an informed decision.
